Thunderbolt recreated a natural environment
in the main room at Margin 2003 with a specially
commissioned sound installation.
Using original field recordings the installation
drew attention to the sonic beauty and sources
of familiar natural sounds, evoking sensual memories.
Thunderbolt’s sound installations are easy to
relate to and use familiar technology such as portable
tape players, hi-fi’s and club sound systems.
Thunderbolt tempted visitors to take a break from
busy schedules by bringing the sounds of far away
to The Music Rooms for the Womenswear edition of
Margin August 2003.
Thunderbolt are sound art musicians, Catrin Jones
and Zoe Riddell, whose other work includes sound
installations and an on-going series of limited edition CD’s.
KAVEL
Kavel Rafferty’s new work is a modern tongue in cheek look at sexual roles. By fetishising the domestic and mundane, it explores the polarised identities available to women. The viewer feels drawn into a voyeuristic world in which they watch the intimate moments of the subjects unfold before them from a hidden vantage point. This group of eight prints, which use a domestic setting to examine sexual stereotypes, explore the idea that the ideal woman is a cook in the kitchen and a whore in the bedroom.

EVIL TONY DOLLS
Welcome to the world of Evil Tony and friends.
All dolls come from stories and illustrations by Gemma Shiel, the creator of Lazy Oaf.
Evil tony himself is a bad sort, a bit of a loner, that is until he did some time at Her Majesties pleasure, where he was able to befriend like-minded people. There is also Cynthia an evil sibling to Henry who collects used envelopes. Clifford is a presentable young man that enjoys biscuits, and there is Rhonda who loves cats and has lots that all live in her flat above the betting shop. Each doll has it’s own story to tell and individual personality. Evil Tony and friends are all lovingly hand printed and stitched in front of Gemma’s favouite television soaps.
PETE FOWLER Pete Fowler, famous for his Monsterism art and toys, waved his eye wand over the free bar and magazine area at the Mens edition.
The mysterious Island of Monsterism - it’s a place that
David Attenborough fears to tread and Discovery Channel
have yet to discover.
Their heroic finder, Pete Fowler, has ventured into the
deepest depths of the island to uncover Monsterism.
After discovering the mysterious Island of Monsterism some
years ago, Pete has been telling stories and giving a voice
and face to the monsters that inhabit this unknown land.
London based Pete has spread the word far and wide, reaching
cult status in Japan where fans line up to get their hands
on new additions.
Ben Wilson has collaborated with a group of artists to create
the Chairfix installation. The eco-friendly design is supplied
in one piece - all the components simply pop out of the frame
and are snapped together.
Artists including Pete Fowler, Will Barras, Luke Wilson and Remi/Rough all customised a chairfix kit that was displayed at the Mens edition of Margin London.
The customised chairs are going on to exhibit at the Aram store
before moving on to Belgium and Tokyo.
