Sportswear International #204

Margin - London, England Launched four years ago, Margin was established to offer a show 'where new young labels could find an affordable platfrom' says show owner Odysseas Constantine. 'Streetwear shows can be simpler without monolithis booths and competing sound systems - it saves brands feeling the need to compete in booth design and it saves them time and money,' he adds. 'Margin provides a stylish space where the product is key, we have a simple layout that brings the collections and the art to the attentions of visiting buyers and press.' The biannual show moved venues to the Royal Horticultural Halls for its February 2006 edition. Its regular exhibitors include Supremebeing, Dephect, Lady Luck Rules OK, Lazy Oaf, I Saved Laurence, New Urban, Slush, 2sickbastards and Urban Urban. www.margin.tv

Yet, paradoxically, among all the change it fosters, streetwear also thrives on consistency. As Odysseas Constantine, the owner of the London-based streetwear show Margin, says: 'The most successful brands are the ones who know what they're about and stick to that message from season to season with no particular attention paid to mainstream trends.'

Well the Heidi Seeker team have been busy busy busy in preparation for our twice-yearly tradeshow spot at Margin London. The show went super duper well for us and we will be adding some kickin' new stockists to our list shortly. Whoopee!

“MARGIN was an excellent show for us and we look forward to attending in July. The Margin team have once again created a great environment for Seventyseven and other quality labels to meet with respected buyers from the U.K and around the world.”

I SAVED THIS FROM THE 80'S + I Saved Laurence one of the most interesting collections of tees and sweats for boysies and girlsies that we saw at MARGIN in London + nice acid colours featuring 80's esque prints + and at decent prices + Now in their fourth season I saved Laurence an anagram of Laurence's name also has a concession at TOP SHOP Oxford Circus + As many fashionistas know Top Shop is no longer just the place where chavs go to buy a suit for their first court appearance or where chavettes go to buy skirts that can double as belts for their first fingering + but is in fact now a great place to pick up the latest in high-streetwear (and teenage girls)

“As usual Margin was very successful for us and has been a huge factor in the growth of our brand. It is an ideal and affordable way to showcase our clothing to a wide variety of buyers from the UK and abroad. This season we wrote really good orders and the new venue worked well for us. The general feedback from buyers I spoke to was that while other shows had become more mainstream, unimaginative and commercial, Margin had stuck to its guns offering a far more exciting selection of niche brands with unique products.”

Drapers ‘Off the Record’

Supreme Being at Work. It's sometimes difficult to tell who's working hard at the shows, but there was no doubt Damian Quinn was at Margin in London. The footwear designer was stitching and cutting pairs of Supremebeing's limited-edition trainer range, which are usually made in runs of 300 at a factory in Barcelona.

Margin London February 2006 + Supremebeing Sneakers

Thursday, February 16th, 2006

In the world of sneakers is there such a thing as handmade and bespoke? With a factory capacity of 150 sneaks per style per season the sneaks from Supremebeing are a matter of exclusivity based on the time of 3 old skool shoe makers and their hand skills in the workshop in Barcelona, Sants.

The sneaks designer/maker Damian Quinn at Supremebeing studied classical shoemaking at Cordwainers, London. Together with Yok, Dave and Jo at Supremebeing, this is a project that encompasses all their footwear chat.

Damian at Supremebeing made a pair of sneakers by hand during the period of Margin London to enable those who love their sneaks to see the process that goes into making a pair of hand made shoes.
