As a result of an exchange programme between the UK’s Margin London tradeshow and Japan’s International Fashion Fair, a selection of brands will be getting double the exposure this season.
British brands Vacant and Reveller Clothing Co who are exhibiting at Margin London in February 2008 have been selected by the IFF committee to exhibit free of charge at the IFF Tokyo show in the directional hall called “Terroir” for international brands.
In return Japanese labels Cyrhyme and Toumei-Manila (pictured above) have been selected by Margin to exhibit their unique ranges of reworked menswear and directional womenswear respectively in the 101 area for new labels at Margin London.
Margin London (margin.tv) takes place on the 10th 11th & 12th February 2008 and the IFF Tokyo / Terroir exhibition (senken.co.jp/exhibition) is coming up from the 23rd to the 25th January 2008.
An interview with Retreat Clothing Urban Industry Store first came across Retreat Clothing about 2 years ago at the London Fashion show, Margin..yeah, ok, we dragged our heals on getting on board with some stock but hey! Better late than never! Retreat Clothing is the brainchild of Paul Sid and the designs coming from this guy are about as different and unique as you will see anywhere in the UK at the moment. Retreat Clothing doesn’t bow to trends in streetwear and truly walks its own path. Urban Industry caught up with Sid one Sunday afternoon to find out where some of these mad designs come from!
Making their global debut outside of Japan, Margin is pleased to welcome Toumei-Manila to exhibit in the 101 area for new labels with their unique range of womenswear.
Toumei-Manila create one-piece dresses made with unique retro fabrics finished with vintage buttons and detailing. With their own store in downtown Tokyo, Toumei-Manila have honed their offering of desirable womenswear based on customer feedback to create a range of highly wearable and sellable dresses.
Margin is pleased to welcome Tokyo brand Cyrhyme to Margin to make their global debut outside of Japan with their range of menswear.
Cyrhyme initially deconstructed vintage denim to create new clothing but soon expanded the range to include other vintage textiles such as army and workwear fabrics to create menswear with an ethical outlook. Cyrhyme will be exhibiting in the 101 area for new labels at Margin as well as at the IFF Tokyo exhibition taking place at the Big Sight Exhibition Center in Japans largest exhibition venue.
REVELLER CLOTHING Stand T-33, West Hall, TERROIR +
Reveller Clothing was founded by a group of surfers, skaters, artists and musicians who wanted a clothing range that reflected their outlook and ethics.
To sustain their environmental and humanitarian beliefs, Reveller Clothing only sources from Fairwear Foundation audited manufacturers, uses Organic Cotton, and works with their screenprinter to ensure that all garments are only printed with inks that are Phthalates- and PVC-free. Reveller Clothing also put their money where their mouth is by donating part of their turnover to humanitarian and environmental charities. Reveller will be making their debut in London at Margin on the cusp of The Tee Room and TraidFare areas, and in Tokyo at the IFF show in Terroir.
VACANT Stand T-32 + West Hall + TERROIR + Big Sight +
As well as returning to exhibit at Margin in February 2008, Brighton label Vacant, along with their sister label Pretty Vacant, were selected by Terroir to bring their music influenced range to Tokyo in January 08. Initially inspired by the Sex Pistols, Vacant adopted the Rat as their logo to represent the urban aspect of their range of mens and womens tops and knitwear. Vacant is proud to boast that the design and production of the garments are of UK origin, working closely with UK manufacturing to ensure the label remains resolutely cool Britannia. Vacant has a vintage-style range of Dennis the Menace garments under license from The Beano and has newly added a range of Bazooka Joe clothing.
