Margin to showcase host of new brands
27 July 2010 | By Suzanne Bearne
Streetwear trade show Margin has signed a raft of new brands to its August edition.

UK brands making their UK trade show debut include womenswear brands Eva Evanovich and ALQ UK, as well as men’s denimwear from Makia in Finland, Spain’s Garcia Madrid and Articalizm in Japan.

The show also marks the return of brands such as cult brand Silas, womenswear and accessories brand OBEY and street fashion brands WeSc, Gravis Vestal and True Love after a departure of over two years from UK tradeshows.

Other collections making their debut include London-based 1 in a 100 which produces limited-edition artist prints, Ideologie from America with organic and ethical clothing and Trikki which offers colourful t-shirts and cut-and-sew jackets.

Odysseas Constantine, the organiser of Margin, said: “Whilst Margin is primarily a launch-pad for new design talent, we’re happy to welcome credible larger brands when they’re independent-minded to show an edited selection of their most directional product that we feel is relevant to the key indie, department and multiply buyers that regularly visit us.”

Margin will run from August 1 to 2 at The Music Rooms, South Molton Lane in London.

Where is Silas? (actually they’ll be back soon!)
Posted July 17th, 2010 by admin and filed in Fashion

It is now over 3 years ago that Silas, one of the UK’s most inspirational streetwear labels, decided to call time on distributing to the European market. Well the great news for all the cult followers of the brand is they’re back, and looking pretty much like they’ve never been away!

Silas and Maria was founded back in 1998 by Russell Waterman and Sophia Pantera, and quickly grew into a globally recognised brand. Over the years they have collaborated with some very famous names and faces: James Jarvis (graphic artist and creator of the Amos Toys range and famed King Ken collection), Fergus ‘Fergadelic’ Purcell (renound graphic designer and founder of Tonite Clothing, and Gareth Skewis (one of the brains behind Pointer Footwear) just to name a few. With such a great team of designers and collaborators, Silas and Maria quickly began to put British streetwear to a global audience, and with the help of James Jarvis’ ‘Martin’ figure, they followed on by establishing a UK vinyl toy market.

Many of the UK’s finest and most famous streetwear boutiques such as ‘Bond International’, ‘Hanon Shop’ (who have managed to keep a Silas supply line going for the last 3 years via Japanese import) and the much missed ‘One 40 Five’ store in Brighton built much of their reputations around the success of the Silas and Maria brand. Many a time I personally travelled to the top of the Brighton Laines just to view and buy from the range, which was always complemented by a large range of James Jarvis toys. Somehow the likes of Stussy and Maharishi didn’t seem of that much interest alongside the Silas combination!

In 2006, when the founders decided to focus on other projects, the brand sadly closed nearly all its accounts outside of Japan leaving an army of devoted followers disappointed. That is until now, as Silas is set to return to the UK this summer! Despite being away in Japan for the last few years, they are still collaborating with cutting edge UK designers such as European Bob and shoe manufacturers George Cox, and the early indications are they could be making waves on their return!

Silas will be showing their new collection exclusively at Margin, the UK’s longest running independent tradeshow. Margin has run since August 2002, and has been the launching block for many new brands as well as supporting some of the biggest names on the streetwear scene. This years Margin on the 1st and 2nd of August will see the likes of Obey Clothing (who will be showing off their new ladies range) rub shoulders with not only Silas themselves, but also Gravis, Duffs, Dephect, Vestal and Misticon Clothing.

We are obviously pschyed to be seeing the new Silas stuff, and also look forward to checking out what other newly emerging brands are on offer. To check out what Silas have been up to you can still check out their website at www.silasandmaria.com and for further info on the 19th edition of the Margin show go here www.margin.tv

New brands at Margin
Wednesday, 23 June 2010

Always on the look out for fresh talent, trade show Margin confirmed a host of new brands for August 2010. Besides up and coming labels, Margin will also showcase established brands. Garcia Madrid will present their mens tailoring, casualwear and accessories for the very first time at Margin. Their sharp and high quality menswear is inspired by art and design. Ethical Boston based brand Ideologie will also make their UK debut. The organic clothing company is known for their ethical philosophy and on-trend art prints. Cult brand Silas are making their UK return exclusively at Margin, and will sit alongside brands such as Obey, Dephect, and RVCA who have not exhibited in the UK for over two years.

Launched in 2002, independent tradeshow Margin is the brainchild of Odysseas Constantine. Offering directional clothing for both men and women, the exhibition is a platform for new design talent to exhibit and expose their collections to the British and international fashion trade and press.
