International Fashion Focus at Margin London Fashion Event Article Posted June 2, 2009 The February 2009 edition of Margin, the London tradeshow for upscale streetwear and directional tailoring, saw a significant increase in buyers from across Europe & Japan driven by the weaker pound and stronger Euro, and the August 2009 edition is on track to be the most international mix of exhibiting brands to date. Buyers from across Germany, Belgium, France, Spain and The Netherlands descended on The Music Rooms in Mayfair to visit Margin and, courtesy of a wallet-friendly exchange rate, source more affordable and directional wares from UK designers. Equally UK buyers reported that the stronger Euro meant cutting back on overseas trade shows and instead decided to buy on the doorstep from brands at Margin. For UK buyers still keen to source unique international designers, without the expense of overseas travel, Margin is welcoming many overseas brands to the August 2009 edition of the exhibition. Already confirmed are exhibitors from countries including Australia, Canada, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, and Thailand, who will be showcasing their ranges alongside new and young UK designers.

+++ Margin is a curated event where buyers know they can find great new labels season after season and don’t have to wade through hall after hall of established brands to find directional new products to offer their shoppers.

+++ Spaces are limited to appropriate brands only that have a directional edge and something new to offer.

+++ Margin consistently welcomes key buyers from directional stores and editors from cutting-edge titles keen to keep a step ahead of the competition and who know Margin is the prime location to discover new brands + at larger events where mainstream brands take centre-stage and priority, new labels can often be an opportunity missed.+++ The Original and the best platform for new talent for over 5 years, Margin was established to help new labels reach a wider buying and press audience. Margin was created out of necessity. Retailers and Editors travel the world looking for the next big thing but are never going to find it at a show whose costs prohibit fresh talent. The main drive of Margin was to establish a show where new young labels could find an affordable and successful platform.

The Music Rooms South Molton Lane London W1

Youth Intelligence NY Report March 2003

Saturday, March 15th, 2003

Margin, London. 9th-10th February 2003

Young Fashion Event, Margin saw a successful second season last month. Spread over 2 days during Menswear Autumn/Winter buying week, the event was held at the Music Rooms on South Molton Lane. This space was chosen for its central London location, close proximity to Bond Street tube & for the space itself. The Music Rooms is a popular venue chosen by artists & fashion designers to exhibit & show their collections. Parquet floors & white walls make a stylish blank canvas to dress & individualise the location.Margin was created out of a necessity. London is globally known for its young, cutting edge independent designers, who usually have little or no financial backing. Event founder, Odysseas Constantine wanted to create a platform for his own Rainbow Knitwear range and Block Headwear where he works as a consultant & sales associate. “Established London trade events are un-justifiably costly. Smaller, cutting edge brands who are trying to get off their feet simply cannot afford the stand prices being charged.” Brands showing at Margin can save between 50-75%, compared to more established events. Costs are kept low by keeping the profit margin realistic. Odysseas and business partner Laurent Roure, of Bond International have their own brands to show each season and therefore do not rely solely on the profits of Margin to survive.Over the course of 2 days, 500 buyers and distributors came to check out 45 brands including well-respected labels such as Broke, Bitter & Twisted, Electonic Sheep, Gama-Go, OK47, Upper Playground and of course Odysseas’ & Laurent’s own brands. As well as UK stores such as Selfridges, Harvey Nichols, Urban Outfitters, American Retro & Joseph, Margin saw a big international interest. From Japan, they welcomed Ships, Agosto, Beams & Baycruise to name a few and influential Italian departments such as Fiorucci, Eight Ball & Daisy Age. Also present were individuals from Austria, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Malta, Mexico, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland & the USA. A total of 17 magazines & press, including Wad, France, Sportswear International & Arena Homme Plus also attended.Next season the shows will divide into two categories showing at different trade weekends.
