International Fashion Focus at Margin London Fashion Event Article Posted June 2, 2009 The February 2009 edition of Margin, the London tradeshow for upscale streetwear and directional tailoring, saw a significant increase in buyers from across Europe & Japan driven by the weaker pound and stronger Euro, and the August 2009 edition is on track to be the most international mix of exhibiting brands to date. Buyers from across Germany, Belgium, France, Spain and The Netherlands descended on The Music Rooms in Mayfair to visit Margin and, courtesy of a wallet-friendly exchange rate, source more affordable and directional wares from UK designers. Equally UK buyers reported that the stronger Euro meant cutting back on overseas trade shows and instead decided to buy on the doorstep from brands at Margin. For UK buyers still keen to source unique international designers, without the expense of overseas travel, Margin is welcoming many overseas brands to the August 2009 edition of the exhibition. Already confirmed are exhibitors from countries including Australia, Canada, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, and Thailand, who will be showcasing their ranges alongside new and young UK designers.

UPSCALE STREETWEAR & DIRECTIONAL TAILORING
+++ Margin is a curated event where buyers know they can find great new labels season after season and don’t have to wade through hall after hall of established brands to find directional new products to offer their shoppers.

+++ Spaces are limited to appropriate brands only that have a directional edge and something new to offer.

+++ Margin consistently welcomes key buyers from directional stores and editors from cutting-edge titles keen to keep a step ahead of the competition and who know Margin is the prime location to discover new brands + at larger events where mainstream brands take centre-stage and priority, new labels can often be an opportunity missed.+++ The Original and the best platform for new talent for over 5 years, Margin was established to help new labels reach a wider buying and press audience. Margin was created out of necessity. Retailers and Editors travel the world looking for the next big thing but are never going to find it at a show whose costs prohibit fresh talent. The main drive of Margin was to establish a show where new young labels could find an affordable and successful platform.

BLOCK HEADWEAR - Block Headwear is launching a limited edition range of men's bags at Margin and showing its scarf collection. The S/S 07 range is inspired by brach styling being brought to the city streets and the brand hopes to develop in the European and the UK markets. SEVENTYSEVEN - The brand's S/S 07 collection sees a range of directional pieces including T-shirts, Polo shirts, hoodies, kints, jackets and denim with the inspiration from the collection drawn from military themes and cult isoc graphics. UBIQUITY - Ubiquity started in 1991 as an independent record label in San Francisco. The label became notorious with big DJ names worldwide such as DJ Shadow and the Beastie Boys and, as the label's popularity grew, the clothing arm of the business was born. It started producing its T-shirt line in 1995 and this season sees the launch of new designs with musical tones. WEEKEND ROCKSTAR - In response to the inflitration of rock t-shirts on the market, Weekend Rockstar will be showing its line of distressed T-shirts and sweats with bold graphics and humour. The graphics for S/S 07 have been created by artists from illustrative magazine Le Gun. YAMAMA - With a flagship store in Brighton as well as being stockist in Sugarhill in Barcelona and Biscuit in Madrid, Yamama is showing its S/S 07 line fused with pieces from its a/w 06 collection at Margin. ISIS CASHMERE - Sultan Ansari and Naseem Akhtar launched printed cashmere label Isis Cashmere in A/W 05. This is the first time the brand has shown at Margin and it aims to open more accounts, with a focus on the overseas market. It is already available in high end independents in the UK including Cruise in Glasgow and Potassium in Marble Arch. CROSSFADER - Crossfader originated from a love of hip hop, skating and snowboarding and will be showing its range of swearshirts and hoodies at Margin, littered with bold design and vibrant graphics. SP:UK - SP:UK has a successful show last time out and this time is showing its a/w 06 collection comprising tees, hoodies and sweatshirts, each donning intricate design patterns. Ten artists feature in the collection promoting the brand's original remit of supporting independent artists. SP:UK currently has standalone stores in London and Bristol and a further 30 UK accounts. It hopes to use Margin to source other brands for its stores as well as potential stockists. UZI - US T-shirt brand Uzi is showing at Margin for the first time - its first ever show outside its home country. Fusing punk imagery with new inclusions taking inspiration from blow-up dolls, Japanese bondage scenes and gigantic patterns, the brand has a good following in Japan and its home city of New York, and hopes to increase its presence in the UK as a result of the show.
