Margin premieres new shop tour videos Independent London trade exhibition Margin has promoted many new brands since it launched in 2002, and now the show organisers have turned their attention to promoting its core constituency of indie shops as well. !e first wave of Shop Tour videos has premiered at the Margin website with plenty more to come in the following weeks. Stores featured in the first wave of Margin Shop Tours are a diverse mix of modern retailing including long-standing design emporium Sarah Coggles in York, streetwear merchants Urban Industry in Eastbourne and Chimp in Leeds, cutting-edge boutique Bespoke in Norwich and Brighton retailers JuJu and Get Cutie. Added to these UK stores are Bilbao’s newest streetwear store Abricot and boardwear mecca The Box in Vigo to add an international Spanish flavour. “Independent stores are a vital part of the retail landscape,” said exhibition organiser, Odysseas Constantine. “!ey’re the stores that pick up on new designers first, at least two years before department stores and corporate multiples, and they bring excitement to shopping. After looking around online, I couldn’t believe there wasn’t a dedicated website promoting these forward-thinking boutiques in a credible or enticing way, so we’re planning on launching a consumer-facing website later this year to promote these important shops to the public. In the meantime, the videos are working double-duty on the Margin site as well.” !e website is currently at the planning stage with a provisional launch date of October 2010 to anticipate Christmas shopping, and will feature shop tour videos, articles and information to help consumers track down and browse independent stores across the UK & Europe.
