Young London style at Margin A/W 09
February 17, 2009 by Clare Saxon
Margin captures the youthful, edgy style of the eco-aware London fashion brigade, so it’d just be plain rude not to report from their London show. Ethical Stylist Lupe Castro attended, armed with dark glasses and a notepad to get all the style secrets you need on the A/W 09 collections, and a list of the future fashion stars of London.
1. Junk Jumble
Although this isn’t a new brand, two new designs caught my eye here. There were some great cardigans with vintage scarf detailing (pictured below) and some gorgeous two in one dresses that are about to see light at the three Oxfam boutique shops in London.
Prices range from £35 to £50. All items are either made from reclaimed vintage or recycled clothing in Manchester, and the best things is that no two pieces are the same!
2. Miksa
The great smart street wear brand Miksa, has added more woollens to her popular collection, still using organic alpaca from Peru to design dresses, jumpers, mittens and leggings.
She has used clever colour combinations of greys, creams and stone on skirts, dresses and vests which compliments her lined cotton jackets with printed animal graphics, making a very tight and coordinated look.
Prices start at £50 available at bochica.co.uk
3. Bibico
High street brand par excellence Nieves designed for 10 years for various high street labels before taking the plunge herself, fuelled by her desire to see fashionable affordable clothes on the high street.
Her collection is made up of knitwear, tunics, dresses and tops in navy, ecru and charcoal all manufactured and sourced either in Nepal or the cooperatives situated in the slums of Mumbai.
Prices start at £18 for tops and £50 for dresses.
Available at Topshop in February and Bochica.co.uk
4. Credau
Really exciting, French designer Aude Lesur has got herself into a niche and created a cutting edge collection for men called Urban Dandy.
She has used bamboo and hemp indigo for jeans as well cotton and bamboo mix jersey for t-shirts and sweatshirts.
For 2009 she has conceived the most glorious velvet silk lined jacket in inky blue. It’s in these rather limited occasions, I scream to be a man.
Her tailored jacket and baggy trousers will be in Debenhams in March.
5. Trousers London
Made from organic denim from Turkey and Italian Selvedge, there are now finally two fantastic styles for women, narrow and bootcut. Great back pockets with seams following the leg lines; oh yes very flattering!
They will only be available in summer but they will be online and orderable so keep checking. With Mathew Williamson a fan of the men’s range, I guess the girl’s range will be a sell out. Priced at around £160, there is also a men’s range available now at the Son of Stag on Brick lane.
